GPS settings on iOS

Normally GPS-tracking works good on iOS. The most common problem that we see is caused by issues listed below.

  • RaceONE app is closed by the user. This can happen because some people have the habit of closing apps. So they swipe away all apps before they turn off the screen. RaceONE does not work if you swipe away / close the app. But it's good to close all other apps since this will make sure that all the phones resources are given to the RaceONE app to track your race.
  • RaceONE app is closed by the system. This often happen if you activate your race a long time before your race and that you then open other apps. iOS has a limited amount of resources (memory, storage, cpu) and for each app your start it will close apps that was used in the past. This is because you expect the app to start when you want to, but iOS cannot have unlimited apps running at the same time so it tries to be smart and close apps that you have not used for a while. To avoid this, always make sure that you start RaceONE and activate the race right before your start. And then just turn off the screen. This will make sure that the system has not closed RaceONE and it will work during your whole race.
  • Make sure Low power mode is disabled. This mode can disable the GPS and that tracking will not work. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205234

Get good GPS position

  • Clear view for the GPS. Make sure that your phone can communicate with the GPS-satellites. Large trees, houses, indoor, mobile in backpack/bag are examples that can result in bad GPS-position.
  • Allow some time to find GPS-satellites. The phone will need some time to find GPS-satellites. To get a good position it's good that the phone have found 5 or more satellites and sometimes this can take a while. So before the race make sure to activate the race a couple of minutes before you start, this will make sure that the phone will acquire communication with enough satellites.
